Planning granted for Bayscape project

Cardiff Marine Group is delighted to announce that outline planning permission has been granted for the mixed use development site 'Bayscape' to be built adjacent to their 350 berth marina. The site is situated in the heart of the International Sports Village in Cardiff Bay overlooking the River Ely and Cardiff Marina.

Approved plans include a 200 room internationally branded lifestyle hotel, serviced apartments, 103 exclusive residences, 10 niche commercial units, to include 3 bars and 3 restaurants, one of which will be an impressive 24th floor skybar. The centrepiece of the development is the 30 storey tower, housing the hotel with views extending across Cardiff, the Bristol Channel and the Vale of Glamorgan.

The hotel will be managed by a 5 star international operator and a formal announcement will be made before the end of the year.

The aim of the development is to create an integrated public realm which seamlessly connects with the shoreline to establish a completed infrastructure, complementing the facilities on offer at Cardiff Marina and the neighbouring white water rafting and canoe centre as well as the International Sports Village as a whole.

The developers have shown a continuing commitment to Cardiff, over the past 2 years Cardiff Marine Group has delivered the highly successful Cardiff Marine Village on Penarth Road and a significant 350 berth development at Cardiff Marina. These developments have themselves created over 50 jobs and sees the opening of the first dry stack berthing system in Wales. The developers are dedicated to providing Cardiff with another forward thinking project that will directly complement their existing businesses.

Cardiff Marine Group Director, Christopher Odling-Smee commented 'Bayscape' is much more than a 30 storey tower and hotel, our aim is to complete the work we have started with Cardiff Marina and Cardiff Marine Village by diversifying the land use alongside our other projects to provide Cardiff with a dynamic, mixed use space that allows people to live, work and spend their leisure time all from one location.

Custard Architects have developed the plans and Cardiff Marine Group have worked closely with Cardiff Council to ensure their plans integrate with the International Sports Village and urban framework.

The company was advised by Day and Johnson Project Managers, RPS Planning and SKM Anthony Hunts, Engineers.
