BUYING WITH HELP TO BUY
HOW DOES HELP TO BUY WORK?
Help to Buy Wales allows eligible purchasers to buy new build homes with assistance from the Welsh Government in the form of a shared equity loan. Help to Buy Wales equity loans are available to both first time buyers and home movers wishing to purchase new-build homes up to £300,000.
Buyers need to contribute a deposit equal to 5% of the property price. The Welsh Government (through Help to Buy Wales Ltd) will fund a shared equity loan for up to 20% of the purchase price.
Buyers will then need to secure a mortgage to cover the remaining balance.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE
The scheme is open to first-time buyers and home movers provided you buy a new build property and can afford a 5% deposit and the repayments on a conventional mortgage.
To qualify, the home you want to buy must:
- Be newly built (from a Help to Buy Wales registered developer)
- Have a maximum purchase price of £300,000
- Not be rented out
Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
